The Gloucester fishermen showed a strong performance on senior night against Swampscott. The boys took home the win, while the girls’ team lost. The competition came down to the relays on both sides.
The boys’ team went head-to-head with the strong Swampscott team, eventually coming out on top to secure the NEC division championship. The boys also swept the 55-meter with Gabe Pate taking first, Leo Cosentino taking second, and Samuel Mello taking third.
Additional first-place finishes were stolen by Jaylen Severino in the 55-meter hurdles, Vincent Mannone in the 300-meter run, and Seamus Linehan in the 600-meter run.
In second place, Brendan Smith set a new Personal Record in the 600-meter, while Lyall Cunningham fought hard in the 2-mile run. Severnio got second in the shotput, and Mannone placed the same in the high jump.
Other noteworthy performances were Jefferson doCarmo in the 1000-meter run and high jump, taking third, and Lemi Marshall in the mile, also taking third.
The boy’s team finished off the night in an outstanding 4×400 meter race composed of doCarmo, Linehan, Smith, and Mannone, dominating and winning the meet and the NEC title.
The girls’ team hung in tight against a tight Swampscott team, but the meet came down to the end, where the girls’ 4×400 fell short.
First-place medals were taken home by Hope Castellucci in the 2-mile with a massive personal record and slamming finish, Grace Castellucci in the 300 with a huge lead, Madison Jewell in the 55-meter hurdles, Kaila Cauthers in the 600-meter with a new personal record, and Iylan Minone in the high jump.
Second-place finishes were stolen by Georgana Cauthers in the mile, Caitie Dewan in the 600-meter, and Samantha Tucker in the 55-meter and high jump.
Other noteworthy performances came from Callie Arsunault, placing third in the 1000-meter, H. Castellucci, taking third in the high jump, and Jude Friday in the 300-meter run.
All around, the Gloucester athletes competed well, exhibiting their strength and devotion to their beloved sport.
