Gloucester High School’s cheer squad competed in the NEC championship meet on Saturday, taking home first place.
The team worked together, creating a near-flawless routine that wowed the judges and earned them the title of NEC champions.
Led by captain and “cheer-expert” Hannah Lyons, they were able to execute their routine beautifully and take home the victory.
“We did really good,” Lyons said. “We started off [the season] shaky, but as the competitions went by, we’ve grown, and we showed that at the NEC meet.”
Senior Julia Sanfilippo contributed immensely to the team’s success and is extremely proud of the team that they have become.
“We have had a lot of emotional struggles that have brought us closer together,” Sanfilippo said. “We were all working towards the same goal [during the NEC meet].”
The squad also competed in the Austin Prep Invitational, taking first place.
The team will now take on Regionals next week for a chance to claim a divisional crown.
