The Gloucester Fishermen have officially punched their ticket through to Nike Indoor Nationals.
The boys’ short medley relay (SMR) team qualified provisionally in the emerging elite division earlier in the season, gaining acceptance into the meet about a month ago. The team is composed of senior captains Leonidas Cosentino and Jeferson do Carmo, senior Jaylen Severino, and junior captain Seamus Linehan.
The boys’ team also qualified for the Shuttle Hurdle Relay in the Championship Division after running at the Division 4 State Relays. The team is comprised of sophomore Vincent Mannone, Linehan, Severino, and do Carmo.
The girls’ team had to wait a little longer to hear if their national hopes were secure. But on February 27, those dreams became a reality.
The girls’ SMR team will be made up of senior Captain Hope Castellucci, senior Madison Jewell, junior Captain Grace Castellucci, and freshman Carla Kasera.
Freshman Adeline Wood will be one of two athletes to compete individually, competing in the Freshman Long Jump. Kasera will join Wood in the Long Jump while also competing in the Freshman 60m dash.
Good luck to our Gloucester Fishmen track athletes as they travel to New York City and compete at the Armory to “finish on empty.”
