Field Hockey
Final Record: 14-5-1
Final Place: 12/54 in D3, Loss in Sweet 16
Coming into the 2025 season with an entire starting lineup intact from the season prior, the GHS field hockey team had one mission on their mind: dominate the NEC and, eventually, the state tournament.
While their season didn't culminate in a state championship, the Fishermen had a lot to be proud about.
The team finished 2nd in the NEC behind Masconomet, but 1st overall in the Lynch Division.
Fiona Black led the Fishermen in goals and points, finishing the season with 16 and 25, respectively. The sophomore ended with a 5th rank in the Gloucester Daily Times field hockey leaders (not counting playoffs).
Close behind her was linemate Mia Rodolosi, who notched 14 goals and 11 assists for a total of 25 points.
Other notable offensive players were Captain Olivia Madruga (17 points), Julia Palk, Maddie Jewell and Elliana Parsons. Ashlyn Orlando, Talia Harrington, Emma Carrapichosa, and Isla Black also performed well on the defensive side of the game.
Arguably, the highlight performer of the season was goalie Keagan Jewell. The senior captain racked up 141 saves this season, one of the most in the NEC and North Shore area. Jewell, who reached the 35-game shutout mark last season, secured 12 this season alone. With these 12 shutouts, Jewell officially finishes her career with 47 career shutouts — the most in Gloucester High School history. Her GHS career record in the net tops off at 50-18-7.
Improving on their record of 9-9-1 in the prior season, the Fishermen took down some challenging opponents throughout the fall. After dropping their season opener against Beverly, the team came back to shut out the Panthers the second time around. The girls also had convincing wins over NEC teams like Peabody and Danvers, as well as close losses to Manchester-Essex and Masconomet.
After taking down Notre Dame Academy 1-0 in the Round of 32, the Fishermen met their match in the Sweet 16 against the perennial powerhouse of Watertown.
F.Black and K.Jewell were named to the NEC All-Conference team, while Orlando, Rodolosi, and Madruga were awarded NEC All-Star nods.
After losing most of their starting lineup (excluding Rodolosi, F.Black, Palk, Madruga, Allen, and Sabia), the Fishermen need to make offseason changes to evolve for the next season. It is intended to start in the net, with junior backup Aleena Brown set to take the helm in her senior season. Rising senior defensive midfielders/defensemen Olivia Vargus and Gracie Sarofeen will also need to step up.
Thank you to the following seniors for their dedication and commitment over the season: Isla Black, Maddie Jewell, Elliana Parsons, Ashlyn Orlando, Keagan Jewell, Emma Carrapichosa, and Talia Harrington
