The Boys’ soccer team secured its first win of the season during its last game of the season with a 1-0 victory over the Manchester Hornets.
After a long and heartbreaking season, the boys’ Soccer team pulled off a storybook ending, beating the Hornets and knocking them out of playoff contention.
For the first half of the game, the Hornets’ fast-paced offense bombarded the already worn-down Fishermen’s defense. After half time, the goal was clear: play with heart, and find the win for the seniors.
Defenders Henry Harrison, Finn Costa, Erez Borax, Zach Karcher, and Rafael Jabba commanded the field. They each played a key role in the speed and complexity of the play.
However, when junior captain and star striker Seamus Linehan was sidelined with an ankle sprain, it seemed as though their chances of winning were fading from view.
As the clock wound down to the final minutes of the game, a Zach Karcher steal led to a first-touch shot from freshman Jacob Mclaine that put the boys up 1-0. After a nail-biting final five minutes, the defense was able to repel several Hornet attacks to grab their first win and end the season on a high note.
Going into next season, all the starters will be returning, and a strong group of underclassmen is determined to crack the lineup. With weight training and indoor leagues, the boys will be back and prepared next year to keep their win streak going.
