The Gloucester Field Hockey team celebrated the seniors with yet another win over the Saugus Sachems, with a final score of 2-0.
After the lengthy ceremony, which gave attention to the seven vital players graduating in June, the game started slowly. Although Gloucester was in control of the first quarter, Saugus protected the net.
Going into the second quarter, the Fishermen were determined to score. On one of their many offensive corners, Maddie Jewell tipped the ball past the goalie, putting the Fishermen in the lead.
After half-time, Sophomore Mia Rodolosi scored off an incredible shot during a separate corner, giving Gloucester a good lead.
Saugus did not give up, however; they were quick to the ball, fast on their feet, and got it down in Gloucester’s end a bit more than expected.
In the end, Captain Keagan Jewell got the shutout after an incredible performance. The win gave Gloucester confidence as they enter their final week of the regular season.
The girls are set to battle Marblehead on Tuesday, followed by Malden Catholic and Masconomet later in the week. All teams will be tough battles, but the Fishermen are prepared and will give it their all.
