Yesterday, the Fishermen battled it out against the Peabody Tanners, but to the dismay of Gloucester fans, it was the Tanners who came out on top with a 3-1 victory.
The pressure was on for the first half of the match as both teams battled for the first goal. Near the end of the first half, Peabody put themselves on the board with a 1-0 lead. However, Gloucester maintained a strong defense and prevented any other goals throughout the rest of the half.
Going into the second half, both teams were persistent and determined with their shots on net, but Gloucester’s sophomore goalie Jessica Harvey was quick to block anything that came her way.
The score remained a tight 1-0 lead for Peabody until they scored again midway through the second half, providing some cushion for the Tanners. Gloucester kept up the battle with a few near breakaways by freshman Meadow Anderson and numerous shots on net by junior Taiya Mano.
Mano’s intensity was soon rewarded with a penalty kick which went right into the top of the net. However, the last 5 minutes of the match proved to be an upset for Fishermen fans when Peabody scored again, securing the 3-1 victory for the Tanners.
Gloucester will be hosting Salem next Thursday at 4:30, where Fishermen fans are anticipating a win against the Witches to help propel Gloucester to playoffs.
