With Christmas right around the corner, the town of Gloucester is celebrating with a variety of fun activities, food, and decorations.
Sponsored by the Cape Ann Art Haven, The Lobster Trap Christmas Tree is a town centerpiece that honors Gloucester’s history in the harbor. It’s built from real lobster traps and covered in hand-painted buoys from the kids in our community.

“The buoys we use are authentic, marine-grade-working buoys, the same kind many kids see their family members use to catch lobster,” Director of Art Haven, Traci Corbett said. “By painting a buoy and contributing it to the collective display, children become part of the vibrant art history of Gloucester.”
The beautiful tree is placed on Main Street for the whole city to enjoy, lighting up every night as kids search for their unique decoration. The tree teaches children about the fishing industry in Gloucester, and brings joy to all who view it.
“This project brings together heritage, creativity, and community while welcoming people into our space and making them part of something joyful, meaningful, and wonderful at a large-scale,” Corbett said.
Cafe Sicilia will represent Gloucester’s strong Italian heritage with some amazing Christmas-themed, Italian desserts. Profiterole, tiramisu, rum log and many other treats will be available to order for the whole month of December.
“Around the holidays, it is busy, and the locals come in, and we become part of family traditions.” Cafe Sicilia employee Martina Cracchiolo said.
Started by community nonprofit Discover Gloucester, a tradition called Winter Lights on Cape Ann will illuminate the holiday season, creating a space for creativity and connection. Local businesses around Cape Ann can partake in this tradition with twinkling lights and creative window displays.
According to the Discover Gloucester website, “Lighted locations help bring joy to all those who visit from Small Business Saturday on through New Year’s Day each year.”
This year, the holidays kicked off with Gloucester’s annual holiday parade and Boulevard tree lighting on December 6th. With a cup of hot chocolate in everyone’s hands and the sound of Christmas music in the air, Gloucester residents shared the joy of the holiday season.
Gloucester holiday traditions unite the community together and instill an atmosphere of community.
