This past weekend, The Cove Gallery on Rocky Neck hosted the GHS National Arts Honor Society for a chance to display their work. The gallery was a beautiful, three-day event for the community to enjoy. Composed of 60 hanging pieces, 8 pottery masterpieces, and 2 crocheted creations, the show appealed to a diverse audience.
“It was the first time for most of us to have our art displayed,” NAHS member Sarah Silvanelli said. “It was really sweet to see how they were engaged with our art.”
The gallery brought the community together in support of the emerging young artists of Gloucester High School. Many honorable guests were in attendance, including Ben Lummis, Paul Lundburg, and several GHS teachers, who came to show their support. In total, more than 150 people came and experienced the gallery over the three days.
Over the three days, one print, two drawings, one photo,
and one ceramic were sold, with 75 percent of the profits going directly to the artists, and the rest to the gallery.
“It feels really amazing.” NAHS member Gracie Sarofeen said after her photo sold, “I feel really happy that someone is able to enjoy my artwork.”
The NAHS will prepare for the annual Spring Arts Show at the Sawyer Free Library in a few weeks
“Having my art in the art show made me feel part of a community that loves art just as much as I do,” Senior Ruby McElhenny said. It was really cool to have an official showcase on Rocky Neck because it made me feel professional.
Those who missed the gallery show can view a piece from each of the artists at the Visual Arts Exhibition at Sawyer Free Library running May 16 – May 29th.
