On Thursday, November 13th, the GHS Music Program will present its annual Fall Coffee House.
The jazz band, and chorus will perform songs they have been working on in class, featuring soloists from both groups. The students have been working during the school day and after school to get ready for the performance.
“It serves as a means for our students to express themselves and let our jazz band and chorus show what they’ve been working on,” music teacher Cole Lundquist said.
The Coffee House acts as a main resource to raise money for the program, and concessions will be available for purchase throughout the entirety of the performance and donations will be accepted. All the money raised will go towards the GHS Music program.
“While this program does receive support from the district, it is almost entirely funded through events and fundraising like the Coffee House,” Lundquist said.
The event also acts as a way to kick off the year with a performance close to the community.
“It’s our cozy little tradition,” trumpet player Nathan Gorman-Melo said.
Band president, Sean Buckley, sees the event as a positive experience for the program’s growth.
“It’s the first big concert of the year,” Buckley said. “It gives our whole band the opportunity to work towards something collectively, which is a valuable experience as a performer.”
