Today, Thursday, November 6th, the Gloucester Education Foundation will “Let Sparks Fly” at their 20th Anniversary Gala at the Cruiseport. Throughout these twenty years, GEF has raised more than 11 million dollars that have been invested into Gloucester Public Schools. This event will serve to look back on its many accomplishments and create excitement for what the future will bring.
Along with celebrating twenty years of hard work, the Gala will introduce their newest project, the O’Maley courtyard. For years, the outdoor space at the middle school has been a concrete area with just two basketball hoops for entertainment; GEF has a brighter idea for this area.
After working with O’Maley students, families, the Superintendent, the DPW, and more, they have created a plan to make a versatile and functional space for all students.
“Our stakeholders were students, staff, and families, people who are affected by this space every day, to really have a say in what this space will look like”. Said the Executive Director of GEF, Emily Seigel.
GEF hopes to raise 150,000 dollars through the Gala to fund this project.
While the Gala is sold out, you can still contribute to this cause even from home. The mobile silent auction, run by Massachusetts senator Bruce Tarr, will be open until 7:30 pm tonight and is open to anyone. You can win a private dinner party at Hammond Castle, a spring break getaway to Aruba, and so much more! A live auction will also take place for people in attendance. Local sponsors such as WT Rich, Applied Materials, Cape Ann Savings Bank, Beauport Financial Services, Seaside Legal, and many more donated to make this event come to life.
GHS senior and student advisor Jeferson DoCarmo will deliver the keynote speech.
“This speech is important to me because I can show how evolved the Gloucester community is in terms of education.”
Whether you are attending in person or supporting from afar, GEF hopes to make this a special night for the community to look back on its accomplishments and look forward to the future of this program
