The Peabody Tanners couldn’t find any way to bounce back against the Gloucester Fishermen field hockey team on September 19th, who beat them 10-0.
To start off the game, Captain Ella Costa had a hard pass up the line that was met with Captain Abby Lowthers passing the ball over to Lily Pregent. Both Anna Cinelli and Lowthers had shots on the goal which didn’t get in. Ariana Scola soon had a free hit afterwards. It ended up being an offensive corner, and another one followed shortly after. It took 10 minutes into the game before the Fishermen got their first goal. With 5 minutes left, Pregent scored with an assist from Cinelli. Joie Cody had an amazing block around the Gloucester 30 yard line, stealing the ball from the Peabody forward and sending it up the field. Pregent had a shot on net that ended up being another offensive corner. Lowthers scored off a pass from Costa. Only a minute and 10 seconds later, Lexi Carollo shot the ball into the circle which Pregent took and scored to end the quarter.
Pregent struck again within 3 minutes of the second quarter off a hit by Scola. Costa scored within 3 minutes of the 4th Fisherman goal off a pass from Carollo. Scola had a hard hit up the field that was followed by freshman Olivia Madruga sliding the ball into the circle. Costa scored her second goal of the night with 7 minutes left in the second quarter. The girls got another offensive corner with Isla Black laying down a block after.
After the half, Lowthers scored again with an assist from Costa. It wasn’t long before Pregent scored her 4th goal with 9 minutes left in the third quarter. Carollo had a good back pass up the side of the field. Sophomore Maddie Jewell made a hard pass to fellow sophomore Elliana Parsons who brought the ball up into the circle.
To open up the last quarter, Lowthers scored with a hard hit shot with 12 minutes left. Pregent scored her fifth and final goal of the night shortly after with Lowthers assisting. Anna Hafey and Cody were both rock solid on defense all night, solidifying another shutout for sophomore goalie Keagan Jewell. This is Jewell’s fourth straight shutout of the season.
The Fishermen move to 4-1 on the season, and look to keep their four game winning streak alive with a 4:30 game versus Beverly this Friday at Newell Stadium. Come support the girls before the football game and show some spirit!
