Outdoor prom set for June
April 12, 2021
The Class of 2021 has endured a year like no other, but last week brought good news of one long awaited senior milestone. Prom has been confirmed!
“We know that you have been anxiously waiting for answers concerning activities and events that traditionally happen toward the end of the school year like prom and graduation,” said class advisors David Dipietro and Daniel Fleury via Google Classroom, “As your class advisors, we want to assure you that we are working every day to ensure that these events happen!”
Their hard work seems to have paid off and the event will be held June 18th. It was pushed back from the original June 4th date to avoid “potential close contacts affecting anyone’s ability to attend graduation on Sunday, June 13.”
Prom will be a GHS seniors only event (no underclassmen or students from other schools) to ensure that attendance stays within the legal gathering limit. It will be held outside on the GHS campus.
Promenade has also been approved, and will be conducted in the field house as per usual. Friends and family will not be allowed inside but can enjoy it virtually, and a photographer will be present for official photos.
While it certainly won’t be traditional, most are excited to safely celebrate and commemorate their final days at GHS.
“For me, prom has always signified the end of an era, kind of like a last hurrah,” said senior Mia Wheeler, “so I’m extremely excited to be able to celebrate with all of my classmates and friends.”
More details will be provided in the weeks to come.
“We are currently working with many companies, the Department of Public Health, and school administration to formulate concrete plans,” said Dipietro and Fleury, “When we are able to release more details, you will be the first to know!”
