Wednesday night the Gloucester Fisherman shutout the Winthrop Vikings in a 4-0 contest.

Within minutes of the puck drop, Senior Captain EJ Field scored the first goal of the night on a Gloucester powerplay with an assist from Jeremy Abreu.

The first period ended with the Fishermen up 1-0 but they quickly improved upon their lead in the second period when senior Harry Marshall scored with an assist from Field. While shorthanded, Field blocked a Winthrop shot and passed the puck to Costanzo for a breakaway goal. Showing that even while playing short-handed, Gloucester can still score

In the first minute of the third period, junior Ryan Bergin diagonally passed to Abreu who scored their third power-play goal of the night. Winthrop attempted to rally in the third period but could not get a puck past senior Connor Vittands, who had a 22 save shutout.

“Huge dub,” said Field. “We were just better than them, faster than them, and ready to play more than them.”

Junior Ryan Bergin  is optimistic about the team’s future.

“The game went well. It’s apparent that we are on a multiple game win streak. I believe that in the next few games we can expand upon the opportunity to take first place in the conference.”

With the win from Wednesday, the Fishermen improve to 8-4-2. Their next game is on Saturday, February 1, 2020, against Peabody at the Dorothy Talbot Rink at 2:00 for Blackout night.
