Want to support your community by helping those in need?

This Thursday, Open Door will run the 18th annual Empty Bowl Dinner at Cruiseport Terminal on Gloucester Harbor.

Attendees will be served soup, bread and a cookie and guests can choose and keep a soup bowl handcrafted for the community event.

Last year, 977 people attended and they raised a total of $80,000 for the Summer meals and Mobile Market Programs.

Two of the GHS Clayworks classes created bowls for the event. They created a total of 25 wheel thrown pots. Each student shaped and painted each pot with many different designs.

“This is an extremely worthy event,” said GHS Clayworks teacher, Helen Duncan. “This event gives our students the chance to contribute their artistic skills to help the Open Door help the community.”

All of the money raised will be donated to the Open Door programs. The Open Door is a nonprofit organization that provides food and reduces hunger in our community.
