Though regular season play has come to an end for the fishermen boy’s basketball team, their season will continue as they prepare to move on to the tournament in upcoming weeks.
Their last game on Thursday against Saugus ended with a final score of 66-57. They also finished the season with a record of 10-10.
Junior captain Evan Mason scored a total of twenty points this game, four of which were three-pointers. Mason currently averages just over twenty points per game.
Other players who lead the team in scoring included senior captain John Philpott with twelve points, junior Ryan Gabriele with ten points, and freshman Ben Oliver with nine points.
This was only Oliver’s second varsity appearance in which he scored three three-pointers.
This is the third consecutive year the team has made the tournament, a first for boy’s basketball.
Last year the team made the tournament where they lost in the first round against the third seeded team, Tewksbury. Gloucester was ranked fourteenth.
Standings for the tournament are to be announced Friday, February 26.
