Last Saturday night the Fishermen Hockey team had a match-up against the Winthrop Vikings falling to a 5-4 loss.

Both teams were evenly matched. Winthrop had a lucky first goal in the first period. Gloucester answered with Sal Costanzo assisting Robby Horne who was able to beat the Winthrop goalie on the glove side. Both teams ended the first period tied 1-1 with the momentum going toward Gloucester.

However, the momentum shifted quickly toward Winthrop in the second period. Even though Alex Enes had a shorthanded goal, Gloucester’s penalties impacted them severely. Gloucester had three penalties in the second and Winthrop really took advantage, scoring two powerplay goals. The Fishermen ended the second behind 4-2.

Despite being down, the fighting Fisherman lived up to their name. They fought their way right back into the game causing a lot of panic among the Winthrop players. Lead by their top players, who all played an insane amount of minutes, they battled back into the game making it a one goal game with time left to tie it. With more than enough chances to score, the Fishermen fell to the Vikings. 5-4 was the final.

Although Gloucester lost another game which makes them 4-4-1 on the season, there are still many more games to come.

Gloucester’s next game is against the undefeated Lynn Jets, which is a conference game, at William Connery Rink, Lynn at 5.00 p.m. Wednesday.
