Yesterday, the GHS boys tennis team moved its record to 3-0 with a brutal 5-0 victory over the Salem Witches.
Sophomore Trey Bushfield stepped up to first singles and dominated the first set with a 6-1 victory. He struggled in the second set, dropping it 5-7. In the third set, however, Bushfield was able to take control of every point, helping him win set 6-3.
Senior captain Julian Nixon secured back to back set wins in second singles, with the scores of 6-4 and 6-0.
Sophomore James Towne made his singles debut in third singles, and completely destroyed his opponent in back to back set wins. Towne played well at the net and showed impressive skills with his serves, which helped him win 6-1 and 6-0.
Over in first doubles, Junior Drew Ciolino stepped up next to Sophomore Shane Widtfeldt, the usual first singles player. The two dominated both sets without dropping a game, winning 6-0 both times. The duo dominated the serve and controlled the match for its entirety.
Junior captain Henry Harrison and sophomore Ethan Parisi swept their opponents in second doubles. The two dominated at the net and were able to finish the match with a near perfect score of 6-0 and 6-1.
Both doubles teams showed incredible consistency and teamwork during their matches, easily adapting to new positions and harsh weather conditions.
All players showed impressive mentality and skills, despite the change in the lineup.
The team has another match today against Malden Catholic Highschool at GHS starting at 4:30 p.m.
