GHS Track takes on Nationals

The Fisherman Track and Field team reeled in their competitors for several top places at Nike Indoor Nationals. 

On Thursday morning, Carla Kasera competed in the 60m dash, tying her own personal best and school record. Kasera also took 14th in the freshman long jump. Teammate Adeline Wood joined her in the long jump.

On Friday morning, the boys’ shuttle hurdles team competed against 25 other teams. Seamus Linehan, Jaylen Severino, Vincent Mannone, and Jeferson do Carmo placed 16th out of 25 teams and earned 2nd-team All-American honors. 

Later that night, the boys and girls short medley relays competed in the emerging elite division. The girls’ team of Kasera, Grace Castellucci, Madison Jewell, and Hope Castellucci placed 14th with a season-best time of over three seconds and finished much higher than seated. 

Severino, Mannone, Linehan, and Leo Cosentino faced some adversity before the race, as do Carmo was not allowed to run due to an ankle sprain.

The Track and Field team is now set to take on a strong schedule of opponents in their upcoming spring season.
