This Friday, the GHS theater program will present an abridged version of Shakespeare’s classic, “Romeo and Juliet”.
The classic tale follows the story between two young lovers torn apart by their rivaling Montague and Capulet families. The feud then causes Romeo (Sean Buckley), and Juliet (Scarlett Berge), to marry in secret and pursue their love, but when blood is shed and Romeo banished, they are separated again. With the help of the Friar (Annette Love), the lovers concoct a plan for them to run away together, but when crucial information fails to reach the banished Romeo, a tragic fate is sealed for newly-weds, and the family feud is ended.
Auditions were held back in December and rehearsals began in January, but the cast has had less than ten rehearsals to pull the show together.
This show will be what the club performs at the METG Drama Festival this Saturday, March 7th, at Algonquin Regional High School. The festival will also feature two other school’s shows, with all the shows running under forty minutes.
The tech team, which is student run, also pulled together all the costumes, sets, and props in the short period of time they had.
“It’s been a really great experience performing Shakespeare,” Buckley said, “I always love seeing the show come together.”
The performance on Friday is an open dress rehearsal, meaning that it’s free admission with a suggested donation.
