The Gloucester Track and Field team dazzled at the Northeastern Conference meet, as the girls took home fourth place and the boys placed sixth.
On the girls’ side, there were numerous personal records set and places taken on the podium. In the 55-meter dash, Carla Kasara took first, and Maddie Jewell took eighth.
In the 300-meter race, Jewell took third with a new PR, and Grace Castellucci took seventh, also with a new PR. The pair are now ranked third and sixth of all time in Gloucester History.
In the mid-distance events, Hope Castellucci took center stage as she secured second place in the 600-meter run following a photo finish.
In the long jump, the Gloucester girls took four positions: Kasara at third, Maddison Goodhue at fourth, Samantha Tucker at fifth, and Jude Friday at eighth.
In the high jump, Iylan Mione set a new PR and secured her spot on the podium in seventh place.
The Gloucester girls’ 4×200-meter relay team of G. Castellucci, H. Castelucci, Kasars, and Jewel starred as they sprinted past the competition and took first place, being named NEC all-conference champions.
To round off the night, the girls’ 4×400 relay team of H. Castellucci, G. Castellucci, Friday, and Callie Arsenault took home sixth while the 4×800 meter relay team of Georgana Cauthers, Auraylia Lord, Caitlin Dewan, and Mia Rodolosi took home fifth.
On the boy’s side, the Fishermen finished with many amazing, outstanding performances and personal records.
In the shot put, Jaylen Severino took second place.
In the 600m, Seamus Wade Linehan took second place with Brenden Smith following close behind in eighth place.
In the long jump, Leo Cosentino took fourth, followed closely by De Carmo, who took fifth.
In the 1000-meter run, Jefferson Do Carmo took third place.
In the 55-meter hurdles, Linehan and Severino went head-to-head, securing fourth and fifth place.
In the mile, Lyall Cunningham secured a seventh-place finish.
In the relays, the boys took many podium finishes. In the 4×200, Landen Cusick, Gabriel Pate, Cosintino, and Severino took home fourth. In the 4×400 meter relay, Do Carmo, Rowen Beers, Smith, and Lineham took fourth. In the 4×800 meter relay, Lemi Marshall, Gabe Miranda, Jonas Colleta, and Samual Mello took sixth.
The Gloucester track athletes shined as they exemplified all their hard work and dedication throughout the season. Senior night will be hosted on Thursday, February 5th. The NEC Lynch Division winner will be crowned.
