If you’re an avid user of the CATA buses, then you may already know about the mandatory bus reroutes due to construction on the Blynman Bridge.
Beginning January 6th, cut bridge construction “will cause significant traffic impacts throughout the city affecting travel to and from school into March,” School Superintendent Ben Lummis said in a letter to families.
While the bridge will be reduced to one lane of alternating traffic for cars, trucks and buses are prohibited, and will have to take detoured routes with city-wide impact. The work will continue seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
“Even if your student does not ride a bus, this construction will likely cause “ripple effect” delays across the city due to more cars and trucks having to use Grant Circle,” Lummis said.
“We encourage all families to plan for extra travel time when traveling to and from school.”
The project initially was scheduled to begin in mid-2028 though, MassDOT had reported that steel members of the bridge were in critical condition. “These are repairs that cannot wait,”one MassDOT official said. So officials decided to do an emergency repair.
