The Fishermen wrestling team competed in the Holiday Tournament, held in Lowell on December 19th and 20th.
There were many outstanding performances, but one took center stage. Junior captain Max Thomas placed 3rd and secured his 100th win during the tournament. He was awarded a banner and his name on the wall next to all the other great wrestlers of Gloucester.
“I’ve been working towards this accomplishment since my first varsity start,” Thomas said. ‘It’s an honor to be on the wall with some current and former teammates.”
Thomas was only the third athlete to place at the tournament after Michael and Jayden Toppan.
“The meet went well as we had some kids compete at a very high level,” Thomas said. “I’m very proud of how everyone went out there and gave it their best effort.”
Overall, the team finished in the top 25 out of the 75 teams that competed at the Tournament.
“It’s not the wins that matter, it’s the losses.” Kirk Benson, the assistant coach, said.
The Gloucester fishermen also faced off against the Marblehead magicians on Wednesday, December 18th. They took home the win with a score of 57-24.
