The Gloucester High School boys’ hockey team is set to honor GHS graduate Chris Dailey this Saturday, hosting a jersey retirement ceremony before their home opener against the Danvers Falcons.
Dailey, a 2025 GHS graduate and star defenseman for the Fishermen, tragically passed away this July after being struck by a wrong-way driver on the Andrew A. Piatt Bridge.
A standout on the ice, Dailey served as Gloucester Hockey’s co-captain last year. Learning how to skate at just two years old, Dailey catapulted his way to the top ranks of the program. The four-year defenseman was known for his leadership and passion for this sport, inspiring teammates and coaches alike. Earning the “2025 Defenseman of the Year” this past season, Dailey’s presence on the ice was evident in every game he played for the Fishermen.
To honor his legacy, the GHS boys’ hockey program made the decision earlier this year to retire Dailey’s number. “As a tribute to Chris, we will be retiring #18,” the GHS Hockey Boosters posted online. “His jersey will be hung at Talbot to honor his memory.”
Dailey’s jersey retirement ceremony will take place at 6:15 P.M. this Saturday before the team’s home opener. Official puck drop is at 7:00 P.M. at Dorothy Talbot Rink, with doors opening at 5:30 P.M. Fans are encouraged to arrive early to join the team in remembering Chris.

“Most of us considered him a brother,” junior defenseman Cade Francis said. “It’s gonna be a really big year for us. Having the ceremony before the game is huge. I think it’s gonna make us play much better. It’s gonna mean a lot for his family, so it’s super good that we’re gonna do it for them.”
Tickets are still available to purchase on GoFan, but are expected to sell out beforehand. There will be no tickets sold at the door.
