Several Gloucester athletes tasted victory in the Massachusetts Division 4 State Championship. Aili Spencer, alongside 2 Gloucester relays, took home medals for the team. The team had 19 athletes compete in 15 individual events and 6 relays.
Aili Spencer led the way for the girls, where she placed 5th in the long jump and 7th in the 55-meter hurdles. Spencer set a new school record of 9.08, and Castellucci set a personal best in the 300 meters with a time of 45.28 seconds.
The girls 4×800 (Caitie Dewan, Georgana Cauthers, Julia Palk, and Ruby McElhenny) placed 15th with a new personal best. The 4×400 girls (Meadow Anderson, Hope Castellucci, G.Castellucci, Ciolino) came up short as they placed 10th. The girls 4×200 (Maddie Goodhue, G. Castellucci, Skye Ciolino, Spencer) placed 6th beating their personal best of 1:51.30 minutes.
The boys’ team was led by Dylan Rochford, who beat his personal best in the 300 meters, running a 36.96. The junior is now only 0.3 seconds off of the 22-year-old school record. Seamus Linehan and Jeferson DoCarmo both set personal records in the 600 meters, with Lyle Cuningham setting a personal best in the one mile.
The boys 4×200 (Dylan Smith, Linehan, Braydon Wall, and Matt Smith) placed 10th, and the 4×800 (Cunningham, DoCarmo, Liam Dewan, and Beckett Burchard) placed 18th. The 4×400 (Wall, Linehan, D.Smith, Rochford) ran a personal best for this year of 3:37.92 minutes and placed 5th.
Gloucester awaits confirmation on a potential Nationals bid for both Sprint Medley Relays, the mixed 4×400 relay, and the long jump (Spencer).

Wonderful reporting from a team athlete. Her work makes the reader feel like they were there. Keep up the good work. Love all the team photos, too.
Thanks for making event results come to life 🙂
