The Gloucester Girls Soccer team fell 6-1 to the Marblehead Magicians, dropping their record to 3-6-1 on the season.
Neither team maintained possession during the first quarter. The game was back and forth until the second quarter when Gloucester took a commanding lead in the midfield. Georgana Cauthers passed the ball across the field to Eve Liacos who took a shot far outside the box. The ball flew past the goalie just out of reach to make the score 1-0.
Abby Desmond replaced Jessica Harvey in goal after the latter suffered a head injury. Desmond made a total of 29 saves in relief. Despite Gloucester’s demanding start, Marblehead led the Fishermen 3-1 going into the second half.
Despite an offensive push by Marblehead, the Fishermen didn’t give up. Hope Castellucci held down the defense until she was taken out of the game due to a hit in the face. Mailee Lusk replaced her, despite recovering from an ankle injury. Despite a knee injury, Captains Skye Ciolino and Ava Paone made a huge impact for the Fishermen across the field. Jordan Macchi also contributed after her recovery from a back injury. Despite the team’s efforts, Marblehead scored 3 goals in the second half to win the game by a large margin.
Katina Tibbetts cited that the team played well, limiting shots from a dominant Magician offense. “I don’t like to say we were unlucky, but many [of the] goals [that scored] were just that. We are looking forward to taking this game’s strengths into the game on Wednesday against Swampscott,” Tibbetts said post-game.
