Cross Country is back and ready to go in as they prepare to go after the Baker division title.
This is the first year they will compete in Division 2 after they moved up mid-season last year.
The team is a co-op between Manchester, Essex, Rockport, and Gloucester providing some depth for the teams. Head Coach Steve Whittey and Coach Rachel Mitchel have big aspirations for the team.
Mitchel hopes all players “remain healthy and continue to improve their strength and experience,” she said. “I would love to see multiple runners achieve PRs [personal records] throughout the season and work together to qualify for all states on both sides.”
Mitchel’s goal is “for everyone to continue to love to run, have fun, and give their best effort at each practice and meet. Winning is just a bonus,” she said.
Runners to watch:
Henry Stevens: Henry is the boys’number-one runner and is one of the team captains. “I want to qualify for the meet of champions [all-states],” Stevens said. “At Divisionals I want to try and race a strong, strategic race where I can go out and stay with the front pack .”
Sabine Cooper: Sabine is the number-one runner on the girls’ team and one of the team captains. “ I want to qualify for the meet of champions though ideally, the team would qualify together.”
