The Gloucester Fishermen boys hockey team couldn’t be clawed down by the Beverly Panthers in their second NEC battle of the season. The Fishermen came out victorious with the final score of 4-1 to move their record to 2-1.
Fishermen goals were scored by Colby Jewell, Giacomo Martell, and Jackson Hakes (2 goals). Assists were recorded from Brett Cunningham on Hakes’s first goal and Jewell’s goal, Jewell on Hakes’ second goal, and Jackson Pierce on Martell’s goal.
The Fishermen got on the board first, ending the 1st period with a score of 1-0. Gloucester had many penalties throughout the game, having multiple players in the box at once. Despite being short handed many times throughout the game, Gloucester held strong and continued to create scoring opportunities.
Joe Orlando and Charlie Terelak were strong with puck movement during the game, and the first shift was impressive for the Fishermen. Freshman Will Linn was aggressive on the ice, and Will Lowthers had a strong game with passing. Jewell’s shots were sniper hard, while both him and Cunningham were a threat to the Panthers.
With a 2-1 record on the season, the boys play their next set of games December 26th and 27th. These games are a part of the CASB Holiday Tournament. The Fishermen play Medford at 7pm on the 26th and the winner of the game plays in the 8pm championship game on the 27th. The loser of the game will play a consolation game on the 27th at 6pm.
