Jazz for a Cure Fundraiser on March 10th
March 9, 2023
On Friday, local bands will be performing in the GHS auditorium at 7pm, along with student singers to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
“The goal is to start a tradition of bringing the local communities together through music and a common cause, in this case, St. Jude,” student director Elijah Sarrouf said. “It is really important that we can use our talents in music to give back to help kids who are battling cancer, and I would love for this to be something bands across the north shore can come together to do.”
Bands include a GHS Jazz Combo, the Docksiders, local jazz group Krewe De Roux, the Salem Jazz Quintet, and the Salem Jazz Band.
“It’s a great opportunity for the students at Gloucester High School to help others,” band director Cole Lundquist said. “I’m very proud of the work that Elijah and Esme Sarrouf have done on behalf of St. Jude. It’s going to be a great night with great music.”
There is a suggested $10 donation, but admission is open to anyone. All proceeds from the concert will go to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
“This has been a very student-led experience,” featured singer Aurelia Harrison said. “We’ve had the chance to work together in rehearsal, which has been a really positive experience. I will be singing “At Last” by Etta James, and the entire setlist is great as well.”
