On Saturday, 4 swimmers from the GHS swim and dive team participated in sectionals for the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay at the Greater Beverly YMCA. The relay team was composed of junior Willow Barry, freshman Esme Sarrouf, junior Sarah Fernandes, and 7th grader Anna Patrick, the four of whom competed in both relay events.

Sectionals are the level of competition after NECS, which need to be qualified for with certain times. While meets competed in by the entire team include both boys and girls, the NECS and forward are divided by gender.

“I’m really proud of everyone,” Captain Willow Barry said. ” I feel like we all worked super hard, and we’ve gotten so much better. I’m really excited to see what this team can accomplish next year. There’s a lot of potential, and seeing how much we’ve improved over this swim season, I can’t help but imagine what we’re capable of with more time.”

Willow Barry and Sarah Fernandes are headed to states for Barry’s 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke, and Fernandes’s 100 freestyle. States are the level of competition after sectionals, which require even faster times to qualify for. States will take place on Saturday the 18th.
