Fall Fashion Preview
September 9, 2014
Well folks, crop tops, bikinis and short shorts have come and gone faster than you can say “St. Peter’s Fiesta”. Summer is gone, along with scandalous summer fashion. Anyone else sick of sand in their shoes? Time to clean out those beach bags and make room in the closet for fashion statements practical for the not-so-steamy months of the year.
This school year expect to see a huge comeback for some of out favorite basics; boots and scarves. Who doesn’t love a pair of leather knee-highs and a cozy pattern wrapped around your neck? And right now, patterns are all the rage. Just don’t over do it, ladies. Too much of anything can easily go wrong, just as an overbearing print can be a nuisance to the eye.
This brings me to one of my favorite topics; printed pants. Yes, they were groovy in the 70’s, but many question their fashion limits when it comes to pulling off a pair. And while they may spark an image of our parents at the disco, I say these dated pants are a good thing to have in the closet. These comfortable pants are making a comeback, so embrace them! For those who feel patterned pants are too much, feel free to leave them in the attic. It is important that you are wearing your clothes. Your clothes should not be wearing you.
Along with boots, scarves and statement-making pants, expect to see an increase of handbags in the hallways. Backpacks are practical and have served their purpose over the years, but it’s time for them to move over and make room for a more stylish alternative – pocketbooks. Luckily for us, fashionable bags come in all shapes, styles, colors and sizes. The only downside to a handbag is the few extra trips you may have to make to your locker for the books you were couldn’t squeeze into your bag of choice. But, don’t worry. You will look great while doing it!
Now it’s time to address my favorite fashion topic….jewelry! This year we will certainly see an increase in girls sporting the big-necklace look. We’ve noticed this trend making a breakthrough the past couple of years, but this year we’ll really start to see the statement take off.
Summer was sweet, but all good things must come to an end. So move over your sandals and shades ladies, it’s time for jackets and jeans.
