The Gloucester Fisherman baseball team keeps the ball rolling, winning two more games against the Danvers Falcons 5-1 and the Saugus Sachems 1-0. Both were NEC match-ups, and the Fishermen advanced to 3-0 in the NEC and a 4-0 overall record.
The Fishermen started hot against the Falcons with Senior Captain Brayden Francis getting the ball rolling offensively with the Fishermen scoring 3 runs in the first inning. At the end of the inning, Sophomore Nico Alves led the way defensively for the Fishermen, throwing a complete game with 1 earned run and 12 strikeouts. Offensively, Captain Jaylen Severino went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored, and Senior Matt Smith went 2-4 with 2 RBI. The Fishermen closed out the game, scoring 2 more runs later in the game to have a final score of 5-1 and making their overall record 3-0.
The Fishermen took on the Saugus Sachems on April 11th for the home opener. It was a tough-fought battle ending in a huge NEC win for the Fisherman. It was a pitcher’s duel for most of the game, with Senior Captain and Assumption commit Giacomo Martell leading the way with 11 strikeouts and only allowing 1 walk. Overall, Sophomore Alves and Senior Captain Martell had a great day at the plate, Martell going 2-3 and Alves going 2-4 with a walk-off in the 7th inning after Amero got himself in scoring position. Nico Alves had a double scoring Amero to win it for the Fishermen, making the Fishermen 4-0 overall.
The Fishermen take on Swampscott next for another NEC match-up on Wednesday, April 16th at Swampscott Middle School.
