It was a rainy day for Manchester-Essex/Gloucester Cross Country Senior Night, but as Coach Steve Whittey says, “If it rains, we get wet.” The team did just that, while still winning in dominant fashion.
The girls’ team beat the Ipswich Tigers with an astonishing score of 19-44. Freshman Anna Sergi finished in first, followed by teammates Ruby McElhenny, Kalin Bennet, and River Silva.
The boys’ team also pulled out a win vs the Tigers with a score of 20-43. After the first-place runner came in from Ipswich, he was followed by a sweep of Hornets following behind him. Isaiah Nicastro came in second, followed by Jeferson DoCarmo and Lyall Cunningham. Nicastro, DoCarmo, and the Ipswich runner all ran a course record, breaking the previous record of 16:46 minutes.
The team consisted of five graduating seniors: Jeferson DoCarmo (Gloucester), Lyall Cunningham (Gloucester), Ruby McElhenny (Gloucester), River Silva (Manchester-Essex), and Caroline Eliassen (Manchester-Essex).
The team’s next meet is at the Falmouth Fairgrounds on Saturday, October 11, for the Bob Glennon Twilight Invitational.
