After the regular season concluded with a win versus Lynn Classical, the GHS Cross Country team began their journey into postseason meets, including the Northeastern Conference Championship meet on Saturday, October 26th.

The meet consisted of nine boys teams and six girls teams, all divisional opponents of Gloucester. For the Gloucester girls team, Lillie Favazza and Kayla Pennimpede ran their final race of their season. Favazza finished 28th posting a time of 21:56, and  Pennimpede finished 44th with a time of 25:07.

The Gloucester boys looked to continue their success on the varsity stage among the conference’s top runners. The varsity race had sixty-one runners, which was the largest race thus far for the Fishermen. Nicholas Poulin finished first for Gloucester and 24th overall, with a time of 17:23, and beat his personal best by fifty-seven seconds. Not far behind was Harrison Pelosi with a 26th place finish and time of 17:42, and Maxwell Littman in 33rd posting a time of 18:04.

Overall the Fishermen placed seventh out of nine teams, all of which had a similar or larger number of runners. Captain Cody Clifford was proud of his team’s performance and results.

“Considering the size and talent of the teams present at the meet, I was genuinely impressed by how well we performed. All of us maintained good times, and there were even a few pleasant surprises regarding certain performances.” said Clifford on the state of the team after the race.

On November 9th, the Boys team concludes its season in Wrentham for the Massachusetts State meet.
