Gillnetter 2025 Spring Student-Athlete of the Season

Aces aren’t supposed to dominate this early. But from the moment she stepped in the circle this year, Abby Noble has looked like she never needed a warmup.

After a week of weather delays, Noble finally opened her season on April 6th against Tewksbury — and immediately took control. The sophomore went the distance, striking out eight and setting the tone for what’s quickly become a stretch of overpowering performances.

Against Danvers, she elevated even further.

Facing a conference rival, Noble delivered a complete game shutout with 12 strikeouts, allowing just three hits. After a slightly off first inning, she settled in and took over completely — commanding the zone, working quickly, and shutting down any chance of offensive rhythm. By the middle innings, every at-bat felt inevitable.

She carried that dominance into April 9th against Salem, striking out 10 batters in just four innings of work before handing things off. Then came her most eye-opening outing yet: a 17-strikeout complete game against Saugus, where she controlled every pitch and dictated the pace from start to finish.

Noble's dominance in the circle drives everything Gloucester does. Her ability to control games from the circle sets the tone defensively, keeps pressure off the offense, and allows the Fishermen to play with confidence from the first pitch to the last. With every dominant outing, she’s proven to be the engine behind Gloucester’s early success and the standard the team builds around.

Pitchers don’t usually double as power threats. But from the first week of the season, Nolan Aiello made it clear he isn’t just another arm out of the bullpen — he’s a difference-maker.

Aiello first made his presence felt on April 6th against Methuen, locking down the final two innings to secure the win. He allowed nothing across while striking out two, earning the save and slamming the door on any late-game momentum.

But it was two days later, against Danvers, where Aiello truly broke out.

In a lineup that produced up and down the order, it was Aiello who delivered the biggest swing of the day — a towering three-run shot to deep left that flipped the Fishermen's energy, and the game, entirely.

He carried that momentum into April 10th against Saugus where he manufactured a run while drawing a walk, continuing to contribute in whatever way the team needed.

Throughout the opening of the season, Aiello has been a key piece in Gloucester’s early success.

And if this is just the start?

The rest of the NEC might want to take notice — because Aiello is only getting going.

Angela Russo - Gloucester Softball

Some hitters wait for the right moment. Angela Russo creates it.

From Gloucester's season opener against Tewksbury, Russo established herself as a force in the lineup, going 2-for-4 and launching a home run to help power Gloucester’s offense. It was an early glimpse of the kind of impact she brings every time she steps to the plate.

She delivered her biggest swing on April 9th against Salem, crushing a two-run homer as part of another 2-for-4 performance. In a game full of offensive production, it was Russo’s power that stood out. She also stepped into the circle and struck out three batters in a clean inning, showing just how much versatility she brings to the field.

By April 10th against Saugus, she remained a steady bat, adding another hit as part of a balanced team effort.

On the defensive side, Russo has made a number of key saves and catches in the outfield. Alongside Mia Rodolosi and Samantha Tucker, she has been a major contributor on both sides of the ball.

Russo’s game is built on impact — whether it’s a clutch hit, a momentum-shifting home run, or stepping in wherever she’s needed. She’s been a constant presence in Gloucester’s lineup, and one that opposing teams can’t afford to overlook.

Grace Castellucci - Track and Field

Grace Castellucci was a key contributor to the Fisherman Track and Field team during their win over Winthrop last Thursday.

The junior captain scored 26 points in total, winning both the 100m in 12.9 seconds and the 200m in 27.3 seconds. She also finished third overall in the long jump.
Iylan Mione - Tennis

Iylan Mione has been thriving in the third singles spot as the girls' Tennis season started.

The freshman stood out in the match against Rockport, fighting through a three-hour-long, three-set match that ended in a 2-1 victory with final scores of 6-2, 5-7, and 7-6.
Claire Warde - Lacrosse

Claire Warde has been a driving force for the Fishermen’s offense this spring, setting the tone with her energy and finishing touch around the net.

Warde erupted for five goals in Gloucester’s 13-8 win over Georgetown, leading the way in a statement victory that snapped a three-game skid and pushed the team past last year’s win total.
Trey Bushfield - Tennis

Trey Bushfield stepped up in the match against Salem in a huge way, moving out of his usual spot in second singles to first singles. He played an impressive three-set match, resulting in his first-ever first-singles win, with the final scores 6-1, 5-7, and 6-3.
Shane Widtfeldt - Tennis

Shane Widtfeldt has been a constant for the Fishermen's tennis lineup at first singles during his time at GHS, and he hasn't let up yet.

Widtfelt dominated in his match against Rockport, winning 6-1, 6-1, and also thrived in an unfamiliar position in first doubles during the team's match against Salem, which resulted in a 6-0, 6-0 win.
Finn Costa - Lacrosse

Finn Costa has emerged as a spark plug for the boys' Fishermen Lacrosse team's attack, often setting an aggressive tone from the opening faceoff.

Costa erupted for three first-quarter goals to build a 5-1 lead over Salem, then added another tally in the second as Gloucester’s offense kept rolling on the way to a convincing 12-2 victory.
