Several Gloucester athletes tasted victory in the Massachusetts Division 4 State Championship. Aili Spencer, alongside 2 Gloucester relays, took home medals for the team. The team had 19 athletes compete in 15 individual events and 6 relays.
Aili Spencer led the way for the girls, where she placed 5th in the long jump and 7th in the 55-meter hurdles. The senior set a new school record of 9.08 as she broke the school record. Grace Castellucci set a personal best in the 300 meters with a time of 45.28 seconds.
The girls 4×800 (Caitie Dewan, Georgana Cauthers, Julia Palk, and Ruby McElhenny) placed 15th with a new personal best. The 4×400 girls (Meadow Anderson, Hope Castellucci, G.Castellucci, Ciolino) came up short as they placed 10th. The girls 4×200 (Maddie Goodhue, G. Castellucci, Skye Ciolino, Spencer) placed 6th beating their personal best of 1:51.30 minutes.
The boys’ team was led by Dylan Rochford, who beat his personal best in the 300 meters running a 36.96. The junior is now only 0.3 seconds off of the 22-year-old school record. Seamus Linehan and Jeferson DoCarmo both set personal records in the 600 meters. Lyall Cuningham set a personal best in the one mile.
The boys 4×200 (Dylan Smith, Linehan, Braydon Wall, and Matt Smith) placed 10th, and the 4×800 (Cunningham, DoCarmo, Liam Dewan, and Beckett Burchard) placed 18th. The 4×400 (Wall, Linehan, D.Smith, Rochford) ran a personal best for this year of 3:37.92 minutes and placed 5th.
Gloucester awaits confirmation on a potential Nationals bid for both Sprint Medley Relays, the mixed 4×400 relay, and the long jump (Spencer). Middle schoolers Adeline Wood and Samantha Tucker are set to compete in the long jump in Nike Indoor Nationals.
