Spring sports inconvenienced by snow

CARLY CURCURU, Staff Writer

As you look outside at the athletic areas of Gloucester High School, you suddenly realize that there are none. With these fields and courts buried under almost six feet of snow, students are beginning to wonder how spring sports will even happen.

Gloucester, along with other schools in the NEC, have begun to develop a plan of attack. Athletic Director Kim Patience hopes to push all games and meets until after April vacation.

Unfortunately, until the snow melts, teams will have to practice in the field house.

In addition, Gloucester schools have requested light snow removal for the track and tennis courts. The baseball fields can’t be snow blown though, because the surfaces are too soft.  If we do receive permission, Patience hopes to have some parent volunteers to help with snow blowing.

Some athletes have expressed concern about water drainage on the newly renovated fields. According to Patience, there is definitely reason for concern, but hopefully with the new addition of stone dust on the fields, drainage will improve.

Snow removal started on Monday, March 9th.

The indoor practice schedule is as follows:

2:15 – 3:45 Track

3:45 – 5:15 Girls Softball

5:15 – 6:30 Girls Lacrosse

6:30 – 7:45 Boys Lacrosse

7:45 – 9:15 Boys Baseball
