The GHS boys hockey team finished their regular season in style, overpowering Swampscott in a 5-0 win.

The Fishermen goals were scored by Brett Cunningham (2), Chris Karvelas, Giacomo Martell, and Will Lowthers. Assists came from Lowthers, Colby Warren, Will Linn, Chris Lojacono, Chase Sargent, Cade Cooper, and Joe Orlando.

The first period was left scoreless, but the Fishermen pushed to grab the lead. Charlie Terelak and Cunningham had multiple shots on the net during the first that the Swampscott goalie thwarted.

Going into the second with a 9-0 lead in shots, Karvelas started the fire for the Fishermen with a terrific shot past the goalie. Shortly after, Martell took a pass from freshman Linn and shot the puck around the goalie for a 2-0 lead. During the second period, the Big Blue only managed to rack up one shot against Fisherman goalie Nick Tarantino.

Cunningham got the Fishermen’s lead up to 3-0 with a killer shot after Sargent slid a perfect pass to him. Later in the third period, Lowthers took a pass from Cooper for the first goal of his career. Cunningham rounded the game up with his second goal from a Joe Orlando pass.

The team was dominant throughout all three periods, constantly moving the puck and creating scoring opportunities. The senior offensive core of Colby Jewell, Terelak, and Cunningham shined during their shifts, raking up shots on the scoreboard. Freshmen Cade Francis and Linn, along with juniors Warren, Cooper, and Martell, also contributed to the strong win.

The game was preceded by a ceremony honoring the seniors. Thank you to the following players: Captain Joseph Orlando, Assistant Captains Brett Cunningham, James Sanfilippo, Christopher Karvelas, Colby Jewell, and players Nicholas Tarantino, Christopher Lojacono, Jackson Hakes, Charlie Terelak, Jackson Pierce, William Lowthers, Chase Sargent, Riley DeHaan, Ethan Mahoney, and Liam McKay.

The team finished out the season with a 10-8-2 record and ranked 12th in D2. With their qualification for the tournament, the team awaits the arrival of 21st ranked Walpole for round 1 of the D2 Tournament. Come support the team this Wednesday at 6pm as they look to move on to the Sweet 16.
