The GHS girls hockey team came out victorious in a 5-0 game against the Medford Mustangs. Goals went to Lily Pregent, Captain Abby Lowthers, Sydney Bouchie, Captain Ella Costa, and Jenna Connelly. Assists were from Lowthers, Ari Scola, Costa, Connelly, Kaya Collins, Pregent, and Halle Wentworth.

The team totaled 17 more shots on the net than the Mustangs, who shot a mere 10 shots at Kayden Cusumano between the pipes. Pregent scored off a Lowthers pass just 3 minutes into the game, a dime right into the net to make the score 1-0. Bouchie and Scola had a powerful odd man rush together while Costa and Captain Brooke McNiff were solid on the blue line. Wentworth, along with linemates Fiona Black and Collins had solid shifts throughout the game.

Bouchie scored a bullet shot to the upper corner of the net after Lowthers’s goal, helping the Fishermen lead the Mustangs 3-0. It wasn’t long before the team struck again, this time off an unassisted Costa shot which was carried from the back of the defensive line.

A scrum in front of the Medford net caused a goal from Lowthers which was assisted by Scola and Pregent to end the game with a 5-0 finish.

Along with their win against the Mustangs, the Fishermen battled against Winthrop for an electric 2-1 win on Winthrop’s own ice. The team shocked the gritty Vikings team with goals from Connelly in the second and Costa in the third. Cusumano was a wall for the Fishermen per usual, who also got named one of the Boston Globe’s players of the week. The team now sits on a 6-1 record, who will take the trip up to Melrose on January 3rd at 6pm.
