BREAKING: Supporters of President Donald Trump have raided the United States Capitol building in protest of the impending certification of election results.
Members of the Senate and House of Representatives were escorted to the basement of the Capitol building and are in a shelter in place.
Police are in the building clashing with protesters in an attempt to dissipate the riots. The National Guard has been activated and the Mayor of Washington D.C. has imposed a 6PM curfew.
The protesters are in the Capitol building and are in offices, both chambers and are clashing with police.
President Elect Joe Biden delivered a speech calling on President Donald Trump to “go on national television now to fulfill his oath and defend the Constitution and demand an end to this siege.”
Shortly after, President Donald Trump tweeted a video telling protestors saying “we have to go home” while insisting he won the election.
One unarmed protester has been announced dead.
The protests are expected to continue into the night and it is unknown when or where the certification process will resume.
