Final Record: 5-5
Final Place: 16th in D5 - Sweet 16 loss to Shawsheen Tech
Captains: Jaylen Severino, Camryn Rodolosi, Thomas Cribbs, and Joesph Allen
Gloucester’s football officially wrapped up their season this Thanksgiving with a 28-13 loss. The team finished the season with an even 5-5 record.
The team earned wins over Somerville, St. Bernard's, Salem, Saugus, and Falmouth. The Fishermen’s season was comprised of a powerful run game.
Junior captain Joseph Allen scored 3 touchdowns, garnering 293 yards on the ground in their win against Saugus, only 30 yards from the Gloucester high school record.
The Fishermen only dropped 3 games in the regular season, losing to Beverly, Swampscott, and Winthrop.
Their 5-4 record awarded the team the 16th rank in Divison 5, placing them 16th in the playoffs. Led by junior captains Jaylen Severino, Thomas Cribbs, Camryn Rodolosi, and Allen, the Fishermen prepared to ship up to Billerica to play #1 ranked Shawsheen Valley Tech in the 1st round of the Division 5 playoffs. The Fishermen ended up taking a hard 56-6 loss.
The Fishermen faced struggles leading up to the Thanksgiving Day game due to the ongoing contract negotiations between the Union of Gloucester Educators and the Gloucester School Commitee. All sports were halted until further notice by the School Committee.
This decision halted the Fishermen's eligibility to play a consolation game against Manchester-Essex and to practice. The Fishermen took the adversity and used it as fuel for their final game hosting Danvers.
The Fishermen look to move up to Division 4 next season as they attempt the same goal of winning it all and adding a 11th trophy to the case.
Thank you to the following seniors for their dedication and commitment over the season: Cullen Macwhinnie, Joesph Aiello, Evan Mione, Matthew Smith, and Quadir Divens.
