Field Hockey places fourth in standings
October 27, 2014
Gloucester Field Hockey suffered a devastating loss to Danvers on Saturday.
The team’s final conference game, and senior night, ended with a score of 1-0. Danvers is currently the first place team in the Northeast Conference standings. If Gloucester had won, they would have moved up to second place. But, with the loss, they ended the season in fourth place.
The already intense game became even more nerve racking when Danvers got a stroke on Gloucester goalie, Deyanna Foley. In field hockey, a stroke is a penalty shot. Foley was able to stop the shot and cheers erupted from the team and the crowd in the stands.
Though the team lost this weekend, they will still move on to play in the State Tournament. Gloucester will begin their post season on Wednesday October, 29. In tournament standings, Gloucester is ranked in eleventh place. They will be playing Ipswich, the sixth place team.
