ALEXANDER OAKS, Staff Writer

May is right around the corner, and with the arrival of a new month comes the inevitable addition of new shows and movies, and new seasons of pre-existing shows, to the popular streaming website and app Netflix.

Last April saw the addition of the famous horror movie “A Nightmare on Elm Street”, the second season of Netflix Original comedy “Chewing Gum”, Roald Dahl’s “The BFG”, season 2 of “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow”, and kids’ animated movie “The Secret Life of Pets”. Clearly, the month of April was a good one for the streaming service.

This coming month, there looks to be many smash hits arriving on the service. Here are some of the most notable:

Happy Feet – May 1st

This animated movie about the life of a dancing penguin is a classic in the world of kids’ entertainment. It is a movie that can make you laugh, cry, and smile from ear to ear. Watching with the little ones in your life is a must.

Forrest Gump – May 1st

The movie adaptation of this timeless American classic is no disappointment. Starring Tom Hanks as the titular character, it is a must watch story about life and coming of age.

Sense8 Season 2 – May 5th

A sci-fi TV show about the lives of 8 individuals connected from across the globe through a psychic link, Sense8 is an interesting, mystical show with dynamic characters and a wide variety of diverse settings. Younger viewers should be advised that there are many scenes of nudity and violence.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Season 3 – May 19th

A gut-splitting comedy about the life of out-of-touch airhead Kimmy Schmidt and the colorful cast of characters that she interacts with on a daily basis, season 3 promises to build upon the witty comedy and hilarious adventures established in the first two seasons of the Tina Fey produced show.

House of Cards Season 5 – May 30th

Kevin Spacey stars as an ambitious politician in the show House of Cards, an interesting, mysterious TV show about the dark workings of government and the lengths to which politicians will go to to obtain power.

Marvel’s most recent addition to the Cinematic Universe delves into elements of magic and sorcery while introducing Benedict Cumberbatch as the movie’s titular character. The movie is intensely Matrix-esque and utilizes great CGI. The movie is a can’t miss for die-hard fans and those who casually follow the Marvel Universe as well.
