The Gloucester Fisherman girls’ lacrosse team won their first game of the season against the Saugus Sachems, whom they had previously lost to in double overtime.
Gloucester started out strong, energy never seemed to stop. During the first quarter, Skye Berry scored 2 goals.
In the second quarter, Fiona Black scored off a penalty shot to give the Fishermen a 3-2 lead at the half.
During the third quarter, Keagan Jewell rolled the crease and put the ball in the back of the net.
At the beginning of the fourth quarter, Meadow Anderson scored off a penalty shot. Near the end of the game, Gloucester started to look panicky. After a timeout, Anderson won the draw control and scored. Anderson won another ball and passed it to Ivana Ferrera, who scored.
Gloucester’s Natasha Depaula and Sophia Ferrera played well defensively.
The next control, Berry placed the ball in the right spot for Anderson to score again, taking Gloucester out of their panic. Gloucester held the ball for the last three minutes, stopping Saugus from scoring.
The final score was 9-8, moving the Fishermen’s record to 1-9.
