7 individuals and 5 relay teams stood on top of the podium during last Sunday’s NEC Championship.
The team competed against the other nine NEC opponents with hopes of placing high.
The day didn’t go as planned, despite strong attempts from the Fishermen. Both teams placed 7th overall.
Although the disappointment seemed to put a cloud of despair over the Fishermen, they still managed to walk away with high placers and personal records.
Among the girl’s team, four placed individually and all three relays placed. The individual performances came from Skye Ciolino, placing third in the 600 meters. Aili Spencer placed third in the long jump while Grace Castellucci placed fifth in the 300 meters. Maddie Goodhue placed 6th in the long jump with a personal record of 16’3”.
For relays, girl’s 4×200 finished in second, losing to Danvers by 0.3 seconds. The 4×400 placed third and the 4×800 placed sixth.
The boy’s team also had a hard time, ending the night with three individual placers and two relay placings.
Dylan Rochford placed fourth in the 300 meters, Matt Smith placed fourth in the shot put, and Seamus Linehan placed fifth in the long jump.
The 4×400 placed fourth and the 4×800 placed fifth.
All six relay teams and a number of Gloucester athletes are set to compete this weekend at the Division 4 State Championships.
