Six members of the Gloucester Fisherman track and field traveled to Boston last Sunday to compete in the MSTCA Freshman-Sophomore State Championship meet.
The Fisherman girls’ 4×200 meter relay team, consisting of Maddie Goodhue, Meadow Anderson, Caitie Dewan, and Grace Castellucci, were the only athletes on the team to medal. The girls placed seventh out of 23 teams with a personal record of 1:57.41 minutes.
“The beginning of the day’s events did not go too well,” Gloucester sophomore Meadow Anderson said. “We were really happy about how the relay turned [out] and we were very excited to place and get medals”
While not medaling, there were several standouts of the meet. Seamus Linehan placed 10th in the 600 meter race, and ran his season-best of 1:31.57 minutes missing the qualifying time for states by 0.1 seconds. Linehan also competed in the long jump where he placed twelfth with a jump of 18-05 feet.
Goodhue competed in the 55-meter dash where she placed tenth with a time of 7.84 seconds and the long jump where she jumped 14-2.50. Aleena Brown competed in the shot put where she placed eleventh with a throw of 25-08 feet.
Other sophomores who competed were Rockport sophomore Caitie Dewan, who ran a personal record in the 600 meters with a time of 2:02.77 minutes. Dewan also competed in the long jump where she jumped 12-10.
Castellucci ran 47.68 seconds in the 300 the long jump where she jumped 13 and a half feet. Anderson also competed in the 300 with a time of 48.27 seconds and shotput where she threw 21 feet.
The team will compete at Gloucester on Thursday at 5:00 pm. Both Fishermen teams are set to compete against the Salem Witches.
