Last Saturday, the Gloucester Fishermen traveled to Wilmington High School for the Sons of Italy Tournament to kickoff the 2024/2025 Wrestling season.
The team emerged with two first place champions, Senior Chris Laine at 285lbs and Sophomore Max Thomas at 215lbs. Laine and Thomas went undefeated for the day. For Laine, this is his first appearance for Gloucester Wrestling after moving away to Florida and competing there.
“The big dog is in town, all these puppies better watch out,” Chris Laine said. “Many more wins to come.”
The new heavyweight dominated the competition and walked away with his very first Gloucester placing.
Juniors Zachary Hashley and Joseph Allen had a successful run as well, both placing 2nd. Sophomore Anthony Murawski placed 4th, contributing to the team’s score.
Gloucester Wrestling placed 4th out of 13 teams, and looks forward to their home opener on Wednesday at 6pm against Danvers.
