Calling all Gloucester environmentalists! The Gloucester Clean City Commission has reconvened after a 4 year hiatus with new members, and would like to expand among all age groups interested in keeping Gloucester clean.
The initial projects will include promoting covered recycling and trash bins, installing more Sidewalk Butlers to collect cigarette butts, and community park and beach cleanups. The overall focus will be on keeping city streets clean from litter, plastics and cigarette butts.
The Commission’s main goal is to generate enthusiasm among the youth about making Gloucester more environmentally friendly, while also engaging the community. They will be working in tandem with the DPW and other groups such as Seaside Sustainability. Together, they will generate fresh campaign ideas and plan city clean-up events, specifically focusing on areas with more litter, called “hotspots”.
The ‘Gloucester Clean City Commission’ Facebook page will provide recycling tips and recognition of residents who make the extra effort to keep Gloucester clean. Monthly meetings are recorded via Zoom and available on the city website.
