Despite dropping their prior game 7-0 to the Beverly Panthers, the Gloucester Girls’ Soccer beat the Ipswich Tigers 3-2 on Senior Night.
Both teams came out strong, but Beverly outmatched Gloucester overall. By the end of the first half, Beverly was in the lead 5-0.
Gloucester held the score at 7-0 at the end of the match. Gloucester’s Jude Friday and Hope Castellucci did a good job on defense while Skye Ciolino played great in the midfield.
Gloucester had a good second half, limiting shots and keeping the ball in their control. “I think it was a really tough team but I think we played our hardest,” Eve Liacos said.
Gloucester entered the game with energy, looking to win for their seniors. At the end of the first quarter, the score was 0-0. Senior Eve Liacos took a free kick from outside the box, sailing the ball over the goalie’s head for the first Gloucester goal.
At the beginning of the second quarter, Ipswich took a corner kick and tied. Skye Ciolino sent a through ball to Taiya Mano, who placed the ball in the corner of the net. The score was 2-1 at the half.
Gloucester kept up the energy as they battled back and forth in the second half. In the beginning of the fourth quarter, Abby Desmond sent the ball to Taiya Mano who scored her second goal. Despite a late Ipswich goal, Gloucester’s defense solidified the win in the backfield. All the seniors played great.
“We really put it all out there.” Eve Liacos said. “Everyone tried their best and it was good to see. It’s a good feeling to win, especially on senior night.”
