The Gloucester Football team picked up their first win against the Somerville Highlanders (29-10) in a dominant win.
The team started slow after Quarterback Camryn Rodolosi got sacked to give the Highlanders the first 2 points of the game on a safety.
After much back and forth with no scoring, towards the end of the half, The Fishermen drove down the field and scored after Thomas Cribbs broke through the Somerville front to score a rushing touchdown. This put the Fishermen ahead 7-2 going into halftime.
The Fishermen pulled away and dominated the second half, in which Cribbs, Jaylen Severino, and Carlos Velazquez all reached the endzone. Cribbs was the first to reach the endzone with another rush up the middle. In particular, Severino’s touchdown was a 81 yard breakout rush to sway the momentum in Gloucester’s favor for the rest of the game.
As Somerville was trying to make a quick comeback, Cribbs sealed the game with a sack in the endzone to give Gloucester 2 points on a safety. This made it a 3 score game and even after a 60 plus yard passing touchdown from Somerville, Gloucester ran the clock out and ended the game.
Unfortunately, during the opening kickoff of the game, Somerville’s Michael LaGreca suffered a serious injury after he collided with a Gloucester player, knocking him on his back, where he stayed until coaches and medics took him off the field.
After the win, the Fishermen moved up to 1-1 on the season, in 2 weeks, after their bye week they looked to head to St. Benard, get a win, and move up to 2-1 in the season.
